18 March 2016

The project aims to supply potable water to the area Domžale - Kamnik and to solve the existing problems in the field of drinking water supply with reconstruction and new construction of primary pipelines and ancillary facilities. With these components Kamnik, Domžale, Mengeš, Moravče and Trzin will get improved quality of drinking water and the distribution of available water resources from different sources, which will be uninterrupted and safe even in the event of a possible failure of a single water source or part of the system due to a malfunction. The total value of the project Drinking water supply in the area Domžale – Kamnik is 11.384,020,51 EUR. Of this, the European Union from the Cohesion Fund under the Operational Programme for the implementation of the European cohesion policy in the 2014-2020 period, the priority axis "best state of the environment and biodiversity," investment priorities "Investment in the water sector to meet the requirements of the Union acquis in the field of environment and to meet the investment needs identified by the Member States and exceeding these requirements ", will have contributed € 6,940,942.77, the Republic of Slovenia will have contributed € 1,224,872.25 from the state budget and the municipalities in question will have contributed € 3,218,205.49 from municipal budgets.

As Mayor Marjan Šarec of Kamnik, which is the leading municipality in the project, highlighted today, it is an important infrastructural modernization of the water supply system, for which almost after a decade of joint efforts a subsidy contract was signed with the Ministry of Environment. This project and the project of extraction and purification of waste water in the area Domžale - Kamnik, the first of a package of ready projects from 2013, began with realization and implementation. "14 days ago, after lengthy proceedings we were, after more than two years, the first to sign one of the" ready to go "projects sign a contract on co-financing with the competent ministry. In both projects we have already realized constructions worth 20 million euros, which were financed out of our own provisional resources, loans and reserves," he added. Mayors of partner municipalities – Mayor of Domžale, Toni Dragar, Mayor of Trzin, Peter Ložar, and Mayor of Mengeš, Franc Jerič - even say that their part of the investment in the water supply project is already fully completed. Kamnik and Moravče have a wider range of investments and the realization is already halfway through.

The project comprises of two independent water supply systems, each of which represent a unified system of drinking water supply. The first part covers part of the municipality of Kamnik, the second part covers work in the municipalities of Domžale, Mengeš, Moravče and Trzin. Both water supply systems with drinking water together supply over 55,000 people. With the implementation of the project 30 kilometers of water distribution pipes will be built, as well as 10 pumping stations and 5 reservoirs. The primary objectives of the projects are the connection of new residents to the system of public drinking water supply, improvement of public drinking water supply, thus providing better and safer drinking water for the residents who are already connected to the public water supply, reduce water losses, increase the quantity of water available for fire safety (construction of a network of above ground hydrants), hydraulic improvement of the water supply system and ultimately improving the living conditions of the population. After completion of the project the operator of the waterworks will be the same as before. These are Komunalno podjetje Kamnik d. d. for the Kamnik system and Prodnik d. o. o. for the Domžale system.
